hello. Spotlite, the place where we meet the best models for our brand.
The biggest buzzword across all industries this year, as it was last year, is generative AI. It's not just chatbots and image creation, it's now entering all kinds of industries. There's been a lot of AI buzz in the fashion industry lately, both domestically and internationally. The time has come when AI can design clothes and create rock books without models or costumes. Generative AI has been used by brands such as Moncler Geniuses, Prada, Nike, and many others to create ad campaigns, and the world's first ever AI conference was held in New York last year.
The Korean fashion industry is also increasingly using generative AI. LF debuted Korea's first AI fashion model, Naon, last year. There are so many virtual models appearing in ads and on the covers of fashion magazines these days.
Similarly, AI is revolutionizing the fashion industry. But as generative AI technologies take over what humans have been doing, they're also raising both excitement and concerns.
So we turned to the people closest to the action, professional models who are witnessing the impact of generative AI on the fashion industry, particularly the modeling world. Here are two interviews with models currently living in Korea.

Interviewing professional models
We asked our model, Bokyo.
Bokyo isa third-year model who has done mostly fashion shoots so far, with the occasional commercial (commercial).
We're seeing a lot of AI models (virtual/virtualized models) these days, what do you think?
I think we're definitely seeing more AI influencer models in advertisements and photoshoots than ever before. I think it's a natural progression, and I think it's innovative. From the brand's perspective, it fulfills the image and conditions they want, so I think they'll keep using it.
But it's not going to be pleasant for the model. It's not just fashion, AI threatens many jobs. Still, I don't think I can say one is more dominant or better than the other because there is an aura and energy that only humans can give off. Brands will also choose the model that best suits their situation or personality.
I believe that the rise of these AI models should be seen as an opportunity for the models themselves to find and reveal their own identity.

Thanks to AI technology, it's never been easier to create images for your brand, with the ability to transform faces or backgrounds without the need for models or studios. Do you have any concerns about these services or AI models?
I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about this, but I know the technology is needed and I want it to be used for good. But I'm most worried about abuse due to human greed. As AI models grow in number and scope, I worry about jobs.
But for me as a model, it's nice to be able to push myself to be more of who I am and not rest on my laurels.
We asked our model, Jae Min.
Jae Min Lee is currently a freelance model in her fourth year of modeling. Mostly experienced working on lookbooks or brand commercials.
We're seeing a lot of AI models (virtual/virtualized models) these days, what do you think?
Just as digital technologies like ChatGPT have evolved and transformed many industries, I think they will be very useful in the modeling industry.
Have you ever been asked to shoot for AI Model Studio image services?
No, it doesn't. I've never gotten one, but I'd be open to it if offered.
Are there any concerns or good things about AI models?
Of course, as a model, I worry that I'll have fewer opportunities to express myself or my selling points. I'm most concerned about the potential for virtual models to replace physical models.
On the flip side, for brands, especially smaller shopping mall brands, it's nice to be able to create commercial images without the need for models or studios. It's great because you can use your digital skills to work in fashion regardless of location or environment.
AI... threats, of course. but I think that if people in the model-inclusive industry utilize it well, it will have a positive impact on their careers and the industry.
We spoke to Bokyo and Jae Min, both active in the industry, to get their thoughts on the impact of generative AI on models and the fashion industry. We'll continue to feature interviews with people in the field on a variety of topics and trends in Spotlite. Please come back often.
