hello. It's the spotlight, the place where our brand meets the models we want to be.
I see a lot of foreign models in advertisements and brand lookbooks these days. In fact, models from many different countries and ethnicities are working in Korea, and brands are increasingly looking to cast international models. But if it's your first brand campaign or lookbook shoot, you're probably wondering how to cast models. It can be challenging, especially when it comes to finding foreign models (*for the purposes of this article, we're including mixed-race models as well) that fit our brand image, as well as communication, budget, and contractual issues. So, in this article, I'm going to show you how to cast foreign modelsin a way that even the most novice casting agent can follow.
The importance of casting foreign or mixed-race models
Why do brands favor foreign models? First, let's take a quick look at why brands choose foreign models over locals.
- Targeting global markets: Korean and indigenous brands are not enough. Many brands are looking to expand into global markets, and indeed, Korean brands have a high level of favorability and preference abroad. The foreign model allows you to appeal to consumers from different countries and cultures.
- Emphasize a certain sensibility or style: Some brands want to convey a certain aesthetic or brand image by shooting foreign models. There is a high demand for foreign models who can convey the brand's values and aesthetic.
- Media and social media influence: With the development of social media and the internet, the influence of international models with global popularity has increased significantly. Especially in Korea, social media influencers are very influential in the market, which may be why brands prefer this model.
- Relatively affordable: It's often cheaper to shoot a foreigner than a local model, so for budgetary reasons, some companies prefer to cast foreign models.
How to easily cast foreign models
As the demand for foreign models has increased, so has the supply. If you're wondering how to find and cast models in a sea of models, this is the place to start. Especially if you're a small or new brand, we'll show you how to find the model you want without going through an agency or social media search.
1️⃣ is the first to enter the "spotlight" on the professional model matching platform.
At the top of 2️⃣, click Model Conditions and select your current residence, nationality, and gender.
3️⃣ If you have other specific conditions, select your height, hair color, and eye color, and then press the Next/Next button.
* You can also customize your filters by setting the shooting time, shooting conditions, budget range, and shooting days.
Select your favorite model from the results page at 4️⃣, and download the portfolio and Comcard. And if you like what you see, contact us for a quote.
*If you want to keep a separate list of your favorite models, use the Add to Shortlist feature!
5️⃣ If the terms are mutually acceptable, a contract is drawn up and a shoot is arranged.
Spotlight takes the pain out of the equation.
How much easier would your model casting process be if you knew the true cost of model quotes/talent shoots from the start? Spotlight lets you see costs from the start, which is handy for sourcing and budgeting. You can also use the 'budget range' filterduring the casting process to see only models that fit your budget. It's also a good idea to set a budget from the start and choose the best fit from the list of models that come up. By removing inefficiencies from the budget identification and alignment process, we're able to cast models faster and more efficiently.
Up-to-date activity and real-world career information all in one place
Click the Snapshots, Instagram, Videos, and Career tabs in your model profile. See photos of the talent's latest activities, their Instagram feed, YouTube videos, and even lookbooks, all in one place. Spotlight helps clients get the information they want in one place at one time, rather than going through multiple channels.
Helping you meet different models
And if you don't find a domestic international model that fits your brand, you can quickly cast an international (i.e. fly-in) model! If you love a model so much that you want to shoot with them, you can send them to their country of residence. Or you can pay for the model's flight, lodging, etc. to shoot in Korea.
